Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is a mind body Mental Health Intervention. It is an eight week, skills based group that uses elements of mindfulness meditation, psychoeducation, cognitive therapy, mindful movement and group work to allow participants to learn and experience an alternative way of relating to thoughts, feelings and body sensation. Previous experience in meditation is not required.
Learning this approach to experience and participating in an MBCT group has been found to help prevent relapse of depression for many people.
It is a program that requires a considerable commitment of time, emotional energy and commitment. It is best suited for people who are currently well and who wish to prevent relapse of a previous depression or who suffer from anxiety without current serious mental illness. It is not a treatment group. All potential participants are required to complete an intake process and have an initial interview with Dr. Whelan.
